September 28, 2005:
Launch of Local ‘Green Seal’ Program Recognizing Businesses Leading the Way

Assemblymember Lloyd Levine Joins CoejlSC for Green Seal Inauguration

Recognizing local businesses that have incorporated exemplary environmental practices, the first ‘Green Seal’ was presented to three businesses on August 29, 2005 by The Coalition on the Environment and Jewish Life of Southern California (CoejlSC), The Interfaith Environmental Council (IEC) and Assemblymember Lloyd Levine representing the City of Los Angeles. CoejlSC will continue presenting businesses throughout Los Angeles with Green Seals as recognition of their efforts and as a public sign of companies that are paving the way for Los Angeles businesses to fulfill their moral and ethical responsibility to care for creation by becoming more environmentally conscious.

“Moving Los Angeles in a greener direction will involve more than just planting more trees. With elected officials, green businesses and organizations such as CoejlSC working together, we can dramatically improve our city’s quality of life and make it a more attractive city at the same time,” stated Assemblymember Lloyd Levine, Honorary Co-Chair of CoejlSC’s 6th Annual Environmentalist of the Year Awards.

Assemblymember Lloyd Levine presented James Jung, owner of Couturier Cleaner, a GreenEarth Cleaning® provider, with the first Green Seal, with two other companies also receiving Green Seals:

“It is important that we acknowledge businesses that are instilling green practices, and distinguish them from other businesses that simply talk about it,” stated Lee Wallach, President of The Coalition on the Environment and Jewish Life of Southern California and The Interfaith Environmental Council. “This is only the beginning, and I look forward to the day when every business in Los Angeles merits a Green Seal.”
